Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I know what products I should use?

A. NuPathways products are actually made from food, ingredients which have been a part of the human diet for thousands of years. Since the modern diet has changed substantially from the diet of our ancestors, we are missing certain food groups, especially minerals, phytonutrients and antioxidants, and essential fatty and amino acids. The food that any individual requires to correct this modern deficiency varies from person to person and is determined by his/her diet, exposures to toxic substances, stress levels, and genetics. Everybody's needs are different, and people will have different experiences when the food values of their diets are improved with supplements.

The most complete packaging of nutrients is Prevent and Surpass. It is generally recommended to start with either or both of these. If mental stress (e.g., low energy levels, nervousness) is more of a problem, start with Prevent. If physical stress (e.g., weight loss, sports, disease/aging prevention) is a more current issue, start with Surpass. Usually two tablets of either product, twice a day, one hour before breakfast and dinner is a good starting place.

Q. How often should I take them?

A. Two or three times a day is sufficient. Food nutrients generally stay in our bodies for four to eight hours. That's why most people feel a need to eat two or three times a day. These supplements are food, and therefore will sty in your system roughly the same amount of time.

Q. Why do I need to take food supplements?

A. For various reasons, including mass production, soil depletion, and the genetic modification of agricultural crop plants, there are some dangerous deficiencies of certain classes of food nutrients in the modern diet. Because there are over five billion humans to feed on the planet, and the US has assumed the role as the breadbasket of the world, the best option is to make sure that as few people starve from a lack of macronutrients (proteins, fats, carbohydrates). As the quality of this bulk food depreciates, the micronutrients disappear. Add to this the heightened requirements for micronutrients to detoxify pollutants which get into our bodies and to help us keep up with our high-stressed, fast-pased lifestyles. Those of us who are the most informed about this situation will realize the need to compensate for the lost nutrients by taking high-quality food supplements.

 Q. Why should supplements be taken one hour before meals?

A. The combination of micronutrient deficiency, toxins, chemical and pollution exposure, and high-stress lifestyle will leave many of us (especially those most genetically vulnerable) deficient in some of the natural, "feel good" brain chemicals called neurotransmitters. Some of the most important neurotransmitters which affect our mood, energy levels, motivation, memory, and relaxation, are made from amino acids that compete with other amino acids from our diets for absorption in our GI tracts. The amino acids in NuPathways™ supplements are foods and are the same amino acids we need to consume every day in our diets. When these specific amino acids are eaten one hour, or so, before meals, four to six hours after the last meal, or on an empty stomach, there is less competition for transport into the bloodstream.

Q. Should I take the same dosage every time or every day?

A. It would not hurt to consume the same amount of food supplements every day at the same time, because they are foods. However, our needs for nutrients are affected by stress levels, exposure to toxins and pollutants, and variations in our diet. For instance, if you breathe a lot of automobile exhaust, engage in dietary indiscretions, or wok a long day, you may want to compensate by doubling or tripling your intake of antioxidants, minerals, and essential amino or fatty acids. Over time, after trying various amounts and combinations of these supplements, most of us discover roughly what our requirements are in order to function and feel our best.

Q. Can I mix these products?

A. Yes. Like mixing different varieties of foods. NuPathways™ brand nutrients are food supplements. Our bodies use what they need and simply eliminate the rest. Our own natural control centers know what nutrients are needed and when they're needed.

Q. Can I use these products while I'm using medications?

A. NuPathways™ nutrients have been prescribed to thousands of patients who were concurrently receiving medication, under constant professional medical supervision, in both inpatient and outpatient settings. No serious side effects have ever been noted. We recommend that people get the approval of their prescribing healthcare practitioners before taking supplementations of any kind.

Q. How soon will I notice any results?

A. This varies from person to person and depends on your genetics, current nutritional deficiencies, toxin exposures, and stress levels. Some people notice an enhancement in their emotional sense of well being, functional capabilities, and memory immediately. For others it takes several weeks. Some people do not notice any effects, even for several weeks, but continue to use the product with the knowledge that they are being protected from aging and disease. Those who are the most nutritionally depleted or have unusual genetics may initially have minor adverse reactions to these or any high-quality nutritional products, and adjustments will need to be made. Generally speaking, if you have a reaction to a food nutrient, then you are going through a detoxification or healing phase. This is particularly true for gastrointestinal (GI) gas and loose stools, which can occur when the nutrients help fight off the unhealthy bacteria and yeast that we can carry in our GI tracts.

Q. Why would I use these instead of taking coffee or a candy bar for energy?

A. Caffeine is a drug. Many herbal supplements are promoted as "natural" when in fact they contain sedatives and stimulants like caffeine. Plants (such as those used in teas), some water plants, and microscopic plants like yeast have learned over eons how to make chemicals that temporarily make us feel better, but which ultimately injure us. Sugar, in excess, is also a drug and can other harmful effects on our GI tracts and endocrine (glandular) systems. NuPathways™ products use ingredients that have been shown to be a natural part of the human food chain.

Q. Can I have any side-effects from using these products?

A. All food has side-effects. After consuming food your mood can be enhanced or worsened; your functional abilities can be improved or diminished; your sleep can be effected; or your sleep requirements can be shortened or lengthened. These reactions depend on the nutrient that is suitable for your individualized needs, stress levels, toxin exposures and current nutritional deficiencies. The important point to understand is that these nutritional products are composed of only those ingredients that have always been in the human food chain. They are free of additives, preservatives, colorings, chemicals, drugs, medication, glandulars (e.g., adrenal extracts), herbal chemicals (e.g., ephedra) and presynthesized hormones (e.g., meltonin or GABA). They are high-quality, pure products, and therefore the least likely to cause side-effects.
